“As we become aware of ourselves as storytellers we realize we can use our stories to heal and make ourselves whole.”
Susan Wittig Albert
As I have studied and worked in the mental health field, I have observed the healing power of listening to someone’s story and helping them to find words to create their own story. Indeed, I find there is great impact within the occupation of “counselor”, but even more so as a counselor/ storyteller. This is what I aim to be for those who I sit with.
Just as I resonate with this quote, I believe that each person has a unique story that is worthy of being heard and told. My passion in this line of work has been with children and adolescents- where the “storytelling” often takes place in the room in visual images, acting, and play. However, I also have experience working with all ages- and am open to continuing this learning at Full Life.
I hold a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate (LCMHC-A) credential, am a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC) and have completed my Master of Arts degree in clinical mental health counseling through Wake Forest University. I completed my practicum and internship experiences at Heritage Family Institute in Travelers Rest, SC. It was here that I learned the importance of working in a strong team atmosphere where client care is the main priority.
Although my clinical focus will be working with children/ adolescents, I enjoy working with diverse age groups and varying needs. During Internship, I was able to volunteer as the counselor at Taylors Free Medical Clinic, where we served the uninsured of Greenville county. I employ a multi modal approach to counseling theory, and love to meet the client where they are at. This may include narrative approaches, CBT, mindfulness, existential counseling, and solution-focused therapy depending on the client’s need. My theoretical approach to counseling is person centered, where I use empathy to build the therapeutic relationship. Let me help you tell your own story in a safe, affirming place where I believe that healing can happen.
