Skye Harvey, MHS, LCMHC-A
First off, I’m glad you’re here. I provide counseling for adults with varying needs and concerns ranging from anxiety and depression, self-worth, relationship struggles, work concerns – especially related to helping professions, life transitions, grief, complex trauma, issues of spirituality and religious trauma, gender and affectional identity, and more.
My approach to the therapeutic relationship is collaborative and anchored in a person-centered ethos, acknowledging first that you are the expert in your own life. With curiosity, I will seek to understand your unique perspectives and challenges and work to create a nonjudgmental, safe, collaborative environment where we can work together towards your goals. Though therapy can be about acquiring new skills, it is not about quick fixes or straight lines forward. Therapy can get messy before it becomes clear, and that’s ok, it’s part of the process.
I honor that people are complex and that many experiences and identities intersect to inform the way you feel and experience the world. I honor the unique societal challenges and complexities of gender and affectional identities and the concerns that arise when these identities are not accepted and celebrated. I also seek to honor the impact of all religious experiences – both affirming, difficult, or harmful – and recognize their potential role in client trauma or healing. From a trauma-informed and spirituality-informed stance, I will blend traditional person-centered therapy with techniques like mindfulness, meditation, and self-compassion from Internal Family Systems, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. We will focus on your areas of strength and work to build an inventory of self-trust and self-understanding.
